Give Thanks to the Lord! He is worthy of all praise. The word thanksgiving in Hebrew is “todah” and is written as ???????. The Lord commanded the Israelites to offer sacrifices of thanksgiving. We also see several Psalms that talk about thanksgiving to the Lord, even with the use of instruments. It is linked usually with praise which has the power to change your spiritual atmosphere.

Thanksgiving is a reminder to thank God for all that He has done. It is good to make it a daily habit. The first Canadian Thanksgiving was to give thanks to God for arriving safely in a new land. It was celebrated with a meal. The Lord reminds us not to forget Him when things go well. The world and the enemy of our faith want us to forget God. We get preoccupied; and if we are not strong in our faith, we will get distracted. The scripture tells us to give thanks in everything and to always rejoice in every situation:

Rejoice evermore.

Pray without ceasing.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you

1 Thessalonians 516-18

Thanksgiving has the power to drive the devil away from us. When you thank God, you forget about your situation and the pain you are experiencing. You will remember God and draw Him close to you. It stops the negative words from coming out of your mouth. It commands your feelings to align with God’s character. It frees you from the negative mindset and thinking about the problem. It destroys the deception and lies of the enemy. It gives you strength. It reminds us to pray to God and give thanksgiving. You find this in Philippians 4:6. He is our source for everything. There is so much to be thankful for.

Thanksgiving brings the presence of God and opens the door for miracles to happen. It reminds us of who God is, what He has done, and what He can do. It brings honour and glory to the Lord. It has the power to break through any plan of the enemy against you and bring healing. It will make the situation change. It draws God’s goodness to us. We experience God’s favour and it lets us live longer.

We should thank God for everything that He has done and given to us. Give thanks by faith before your miracle happens. Be thankful for gifts, ideas, family, friends, jobs, church, spiritual blessings, cars, vacations, and promotions. Be thankful for farmers, designers, and producers who made the material goods that you use and wear, and the weather. Keep a thankful heart. You can be thankful for everything that has benefited you. Never give thanks for the evil happening. Thanksgiving changes how you see things. It should be part of our lifestyle and will set us apart from the world. It keeps us in the Lord so remember to thank Him all the time and every day.
