For many years I didn’t think God could use me. If you looked at my shattered past and many did, I was not fit for anything but to become another statistic.
I did not grow up in church and actually, my step-father frequently would tell me that I was going to be a high school dropout. I would be a single mom with no future and ultimately I was good for nothing.
Those words and others that weren’t so nice, were spoken over me by my step-father very frequently. Unfortunately, instead of creating in me a desire to do better, I started to live up to his expectation for my life.
I will tell you even though, I did finish high school. I am not divorced (almost and you can read that story on our website www.lessonsfromanaffair.com) I have always found myself longing for something different but because I didn’t know any other way, I went back to my same old habits what we call “go to behaviors.” Destructive self-talk that told me that I was good for nothing. That was until God started to show me His words and what He said about me.
One of my life verses comes from Ephesians 2. It says and I am paraphrasing based upon what God showed me. We are His handiwork. He created us to do good works long ago, we just have to realize our calling. The challenge for me was that I allowed the world to dictate my calling and it was based upon my past and past behaviors.
And just to let you know God’s sense of humor,
my newest title is Church Planter’s Wife.
And as I was doing some required reading
I came across this quote by Erma Bombeck
Then right after that, I saw this quote recently by Albert Einstein
So my question for you and this has become my daily question,
Am I living out my calling for Jesus and using everything
He has given me or am I allowing the world to dictate my purpose?
Are you going to get in the boat
and take it out for a ride on the ocean called life?
I hope so because you were created to do great things.
