A REVIEW
BY
LINDA WOOD RONDEAU
I was pleased to receive a review copy of this new offering by Zondervan, a New International Version Bible formatted especially for men. I found the presentation to be well thought out and planned.
One neat feature is Myth Articles written from the first-person point of view of a man who believes the myth. These are juxtaposed by articles showing how Biblical principles refute the myth.
For example, on p144, Levi states he believes he can find the perfect job, in spite of the fact the last three proved to be bitterly disappointing. “Now, I don’t understand what’s going on ...I feel like a fish out of water. I’ve got a new, unknown line of pneumatic actuators and butterfly valves to push, along with an unmotivated sales force of seven … am I going to feel fulfilled and proud? And the answer is, ‘Not really.’ Meanwhile, I’ll hang in there and keep looking for the perfect job. It’s out there. I just have to find it.”
On the next page, there is truth! “With more job-hopping going on than ever before, is there such a thing as a ‘perfect job?’ Can we have it all—job security, prestige, the purpose? Whether your job is perfect for you, or not, take some time to think about what you want out of a job, and why.” Then the article goes on to help men look deeper into the question with Scripture references as well as specific advice to manage the question.
I recommend Rooted/The NIV Bible for Men for the men in your life.
