THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY

A few short years ago, like an awakening Leviathan, the “world culture” stretched and rose before our eyes. It even announced its intentions to indoctrinate our children. Big ideas such as fluid gender identity, racial divisiveness, and moral equivalency of animals to humans flowed into children’s books, media, schools, libraries, and even neighborhood conversations. At first, we watched from the sidelines, desperate for answers.

It became clear that silence was not an option.

So, as authors, with clear goals in mind, our work began. We prayed for creative ways to approach difficult topics in child-appropriate ways. The result? Fun, lyrical, and rhyming texts, amplified by colorful illustrations, we believed would protect and teach young lap readers and beyond. Within a span of three years, God’s ABCs, Let’s Be One: God’s Human Race, Wonder of Life, and Who Am I? were birthed to speak into today’s cultural conversations.

Cornerstone Concepts for Kids evolved from a simple idea: teaching biblical core values to our young children before false messages of the world infiltrate.

By instructing our kids with biblical truths during their earliest formative years, a clash of ideas will occur when worldly agendas are introduced. They will question the dissonance.

Armed with biblical truth,

our little ones will be undergirded

with their own spiritual armor.

The biggest question in human history is “Who am I?” Yet, in schools around the nation, children have been systematically taught that human life is no different from animals—people possess no more value than the tiniest shrimp in the sea. Within this framework, human life holds no sacred purpose or meaning. However, the Bible is clear on human identity from the beginning of time. Made in the image of God, we are pronounced distinctive from all of creation.

Our children need to know who they are

and how the God of all creation values them.

Without the Biblical premise that each life is precious in the sight of God and made with good purposes, we are nothing. Life is disposable and meaningless.

In Wonder of Life, The Christian Market Children’s Book of the Year for 2025, children find answers. Placing a high value on each human being, Wonder of Life teaches how life begins at conception. The reader discovers how God knows and values them. He desires a relationship and wants to guide our steps.

Taking the topic further, an additional resource is available (on Amazon only) to assist parents with scripture references, devotional stories, and ideas for teaching the concepts in Wonder of Life. As a parent (family member or teacher), this short parent-child devotional guide can help address difficult questions and connect ideas to scripture.

We believe the Cornerstone Concepts for Kids books can enter these cultural conversations by first building a foundation from God’s Word. As authors, we hope to reach the greater Christian community with foundational yet entertaining books to arm our children against cultural indoctrination.

Joan C Benson is an inspirational speaker, a former educator/reading specialist, a wife, mother to four adult children, and a grandmother to eight precious ones. Her debut historical fiction, His Gift, was released in 2020. She co-authored the award-winning Cornerstone Concepts for Kids books: God's ABCs, Let’s Be One: God’s Human Race, Wonder of Life, and Who Am I? She resides in Chesapeake, VA, with her husband and puppy, JoJo.

Marjorie Wingert loves encouraging parents, equipping women, and connecting with children. She is a wife to Nathan and mother to one daughter. She published her first children’s fiction book in 2020, Meet Mr. Caleb, and created a CD with original music. With artful illustrations and sensitivity, these two authors have produced a perfect book to introduce small children to the wonders of creation, including their bodies. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to provide a lasting impact on young children, a way to let them know the God of the Universe cares about each and every one of them. Sure to enhance a reading session with your favorite child.
