HIDING GOD'S WORD IN OUR HEARTS

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” — Psalm 119:11 (KJV)

Some mornings begin quietly, while others seem to begin at full speed. Before our feet even touch the floor, there may already be messages waiting, news headlines competing for our attention, work to think about, family responsibilities, and a long list of things that need our attention. I have noticed how easy it is for the first moments of the day to become filled with everything except the one thing that can help put everything else into perspective: God’s Word.

That is one reason Psalm 119:11 has become especially meaningful to me. The verse does not simply say that the writer had read God’s Word. He had hidden it in his heart. There is something beautiful about that picture. Scripture was not meant to remain only on a page or inside a Sunday sermon.

God’s Word is something we can carry

with us into the ordinary moments of life.

A verse remembered in the morning may return to us in the afternoon when patience is running thin. A promise from Scripture may come to mind when worry begins to grow. A familiar Psalm may bring comfort during a season when we do not even know what to pray.

For many of us, the challenge is not that we do not value Scripture. We do. The challenge is making room for it in lives that already feel crowded. I have learned that this does not always require a complicated routine. Sometimes it begins with one verse. We can read it slowly, think about what it tells us about God, turn it into a short prayer, and carry its words with us during the day.

Psalm 119:105 (KJV) says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” A lamp does not illuminate every mile ahead. It gives enough light for the steps immediately in front of us. Perhaps our time with Scripture can work in much the same way.

We may not begin every morning with thirty minutes of uninterrupted study. Some days we may have only a few quiet moments. But those moments still matter. Little by little, the verses we return to become familiar. Familiar words become remembered words, and remembered Scripture begins to influence the way we respond, pray, trust, forgive, and hope.

The goal is not to create a perfect Bible-reading record.

The goal is to know God more deeply and allow His Word to take root in our hearts. So when another busy morning arrives, perhaps we can begin simply: one verse, one quiet moment, one prayer, and one more piece of God’s Word hidden in our hearts. What verse of Scripture has stayed with us during a season when we needed it most?
