“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

“Pray about it. You will be fine. I’ve never had any trouble with that test. It’s a piece of cake. Just relax.”

By the time this message is read, I will most likely have completed an MRA test. Yes, MRA, not MRI. The MRA test will check my arteries. I’ve been experiencing dizziness and neck pain for many years. Various procedures, injections, and physical therapy have been the course of treatment in the past.

A new doctor has made the decision to check my arteries. There is most likely a pinched nerve causing problems this time. I understand and appreciate the wisdom God gives to physicians and I see the need for further testing.

The problem is I am claustrophobic and small confined places are not my favorite. Yes, the doctor is planning to “sedate” me so I won’t be anxious.

Sharing conversation with a friend brought more concern when she spoke the statements above, telling me how she never had any trouble with the test and to “just relax”. I listened to her trying to help me in her own way. I explained how I am praying about this fear. I am asking God to give me peace and comfort during the test. He is listening and He will comfort me.

The words of my friend offended me at first. Then, I paused and thought about the conversation. Maybe that was the only way she knew to try and help me feel better. Maybe by telling me all would be fine and to “just relax”, she was hoping to give me comfort.

I didn’t respond to her words with anger or harsh words. I listened and replied. “Thank you for trying to help me. I will cast all my worries and anxiety on Him. He will be my comfort.”

Yes, I will remember 1 Peter 5: 7 before, during and after my test. He will be with me.
