LEAVING THE SILENT MAJORITY
Monday, May 18, 2026 by Linda Wood Rondeau

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin

(James 4:17 KJV).

Though they came from different backgrounds, they were unified by a singular purpose. Instead of debating whether their heavenly palaces will be carpeted or have marble floors, these women put aside denominational barriers and reflected on a topic of mutual concern.

For at least this one hour, through song and prayer, they were challenged to move from lethargy to action against the tide of valueless dribble portrayed by today’s media. As they held hands, they pledged to no longer sit in the silent majority while pornography erodes the fabric of our culture.

It seeps into our living rooms before we can say, “Holy catfish, Batman!”

When we turn on our computer, we are bombarded with offers that will enhance our sexual attraction. Language that would make a hardcore ruffian blush creeps into family comedy. Even toothpaste ads promise a better sex life if you use their product.

Is there any wonder why Christians are finding fidelity a greater challenge, why young people find it difficult to remain chaste, or why pornography is the fastest-growing addiction among believers?

Even with content warnings, our children continue to be enticed by the printed page, television, movies, and the Internet. They are wooed and pursued as a market commodity to line the pockets of trash makers.

Yet, the outraged remain silent.

We fool ourselves in our passivity. Oh, we diligently delete graphic ads, stay away from theaters, install a V-chip, and cram our computers with parental controls. We believe we have done our duty.

I wonder, though. Is our silence a sort of tacit approval? Why should the industry change if what they are doing promotes wealth and no one seems to object?

But what can I do? I’m only one.

I could parade up and down the street with a sign. But would that do any good? What if I wrote letters to the editor? Would that just make me look crazy? If I chide my friends for passing on a litany of dirty jokes through their social media, wouldn’t they think me prudish?

Our apathy becomes the very meat that allows pornography to flourish.

Perhaps we feel powerless against the tsunami of immorality. We feel the battle is too fierce and those who would fight by our side are too few in number.

Elijah served God to the point of exhaustion. Yet, Israel continued in her rebellion. The prophet cried to the Lord in frustration, believing he was the only true believer left. Then God reassured Elijah that there were yet 7,000 in Israel who had not deserted their God (1 Kings 19).

Should you decide to leave the silent majority, be assured that God has his army prepared to join in the fight.
