Becomes Our Best Future"
Most human parents want their children to feel safe and secure. Children often need to be reminded that they can trust the parent who loves them. The phrase “Do not be afraid” and its variations occur frequently in both the Old and New Testaments.
Sometimes children are afraid, and they cry out. A parent comes into the room, and they say, “Don’t be afraid. There’s nothing to be afraid of.” Then they leave. And now the child not only is still fearful, but they also feel ashamed of their fear.
Not so with God
The Lord doesn’t shame us into feeling unafraid.
The Lord replaces fear with his love.
Let’s look at a few verses where God reassures the fearful believer:
2 Timothy 1:7 NLT
Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
Knowing that God loves us perfectly will expel our fears.
1 John 4:18 NIV
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
We are reassured in our fear because God goes before us.
Deuteronomy 31:6 NLT
So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.
Jesus echoes words of reassurance to his disciples as he prepares them for what is to come: his death, resurrection, and their mission.
John 14:27 NLT
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
Fear is not from God, and need not rule us. God doesn’t just say, ”Don’t fear.” He promises His presence.
GOD SAYS, “You’re safe. I’m here. We’ll handle this together."
