In the multitude of my anxieties within me,
Your comforts delight my soul. Psalm 94:19 (NKJV)
My theme word for 2024 was Perseverance. This year, it’s FORWARD.
I think the above verse is a good reminder of both attitudes.
According to the commentary in my Bible, Psalm 94 is an appeal to the Lord, as “Judge of the earth,” to redress the wrongs done to the weak by evil people in positions of power.
The rich and powerful have long sought to control and manipulate the poorer segments of society. From Adam to the present age, history depicts the exploits of tyranny and oppression against those who have little to no influence or recourse.
This tendency is no different in today’s culture. Sometimes, we feel helpless against the global maladies of war, pestilence, and famine. Add to this the devastation brought on by global warming. Even within our comfortable lifestyles, anxiety persists as we strive to maintain our standard of living while fear and anger seem epidemic.
We can take heart, as did the psalmist, that God still delights the soul. When we stay connected to our Lord through prayer and Scripture as well as fellowship with fellow believers, God continues to refresh our Spirits. His love for us surpasses any evil we may encounter.
We persevere by moving forward in gratitude for His continuing outpouring of blessings. For these far outnumber any trial or difficulty.
